Bresnahan: Three Point Play
1) Not sure Brandon Ingram could have been any better in his return game the other night.
It didn't look like he missed two weeks with a sprained ankle.
Great defense against NO, which we're all becoming accustomed to now. Under-reported part of his game was his rebounding. Hit the boards hard. Why is it under-reported? Because he doesn't always show it but when he flies in there to get a rebound, it definitely helps.
Also looked good in mid-range game, especially on right side of the free-throw line.
2) Big tailspin recently for Memphis. Lakers kind of started it with a big win there two weeks ago.
Grizzlies simply can't score any points. Haven't hit 100 in their last eight games. Last in the league in pace, which is part of the reason, but they just don't have any other consistent scorers beyond Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.
Free-agent pickup Kyle Anderson has been okay but not great and rookie Jaren Jackson is prone to scoring droughts.
Not a lot of bench scoring either so the Lakers could really do some damage with their second unit tonight.
3) Let's talk about that second unit. Zubac had perhaps his most important game with the Lakers, a double-double and showed soft touch around the basket, not to mention great fourth-quarter defense.
Maybe he gets more minutes if the Lakers need offense down low with the second unit (obviously not Tyson Chandler's game).
Also, Lance Stephenson did not play with Rondo's return, and Luke going away from the rookies for now. Neither Svi nor Mo Wagner played vs. NO.
One other thing to look for: Rondo had nine assists, looked good there, shot was a little off after a strong first quarter. Look for him to straighten out today.
